On Wednesday, April 22, 2020, the president of the USA has a record of giving havocking news to the world. At a stage where the whole world is a pandemic situation, Trump wrote a tweet stating that “I have instructed the United States Navy to shoot down and destroy any and all Iranian gunboats if they harass our ships at sea.” This was a piece of shocking news, not only for Iran but also for the pentagon. However, Pentagon didn’t just shrug off their shoulders as reportedly, they weren’t acknowledged about all this and they tried to convince by saying that it was just a warning and not a war declaration.
In a counter-attack, Iran’s military spokesperson stated that “Today, instead of intimidating others, the Americans would do better to save their troops infected by the coronavirus”.
What caused the Havoc?
Footage from fox news provoked the US president to declare war through a tweet. In the footage, fox news showed an old video of Iranian military satellite launch where it used footage of US navy from 15th April of Iranian gunboats, in Persian gulf was circling the US navy warships. Week-old footage probably havocked the president. This is not the first time when we heard something like this from US president. Even last year in May, Trump tweeted about Iran that, “If Iran wants to fight, that will be the official end of Iran. Never threaten the United States again!”.
Iran has claimed that it has launched a military satellite which is high in orbit, approximately 264 miles above the earth. In retaliation, the US secretary of state Mike Pompeo stated that Iran might be in breach of the United Nations Security Council resolution. Pompeo warned Iran stating that the country must not conduct any activity related to ballistic missiles or satellite launches. Iran denies any relation of its satellite to missile launches.
Though this is not the right time for both the countries to get involved in defense issues when the whole world is in a terrible situation, these issues don’t seem to end soon.
